Solving The Website Traffic Conundrum

All websites, irrespective of their subject, topic or niche, require traffic; not any traffic but highly targeted traffic. Traffic is the lifeblood of all online businesses. Without it the business cannot possibly survive – consider for a moment a “corner shop” with no customers! No visitors = no sales = no income. The conundrum is and, indeed, always has been how to drive enough traffic to the website to create interest, reaction and, ultimately, revenue.

There have been any number of traffic generation systems created since the “birth” of the internet. Some have stood the test of time; others palpably haven’t. What worked “then”, so to speak, does not work “now”. So, how does the webmaster ensure a continuing flow of traffic whilst keeping the tightest possible reign on the generation thereof? There are, or course, many alternatives but, arguably, one of the most effective methods is to harness the power of Web 2.0.

Web 2.0? I suppose the term suggests that, at some point, there was something called Web 1.0. In fact, there wasn’t. It was simply a name coined to label the raft of changes that were becoming evident in the design of websites and the many new platforms, technologies and social interactions that were springing up on the internet in quick succession. So, how can we summarise all these radical changes and what does it all mean in relation to traffic?

Briefly:-

1) Websites no longer show only text and still images

2) Web pages are becoming much more “user friendly”, so to speak

3) Websites have become interactive with the visitor in a variety of ways

4) Blogs (weblogs) have grown dramatically in numbers, such that they now attract more visitors than full websites

But, as I said a moment ago, what does all this mean in the generation of traffic? Well, in the world of Web 2.0, users interact in a very personal way. They exchange ideas and impressions and, in many cases, make friends and develop a special kind of community. These users access their favourite sites on a regular basis and even play an active role in the way the website and the community evolve. These people tend to hunt in packs, as it were, often hundreds at a time with the result that, if one or two of them find and love your site, you could have a surge of visitors to your site within hours!

The best part of all this? These visitors (aka website traffic) have cost you nothing. We are talking about FREE traffic; no, hang on a moment, FREE “targeted traffic”.

Now, that sounds attractive, doesn’t it?

When you consider the number of Social Networking sites (hundreds at the last count), just imagine the stampede of traffic hurtling towards your site. Web 2.0 has been around for a little while now but, generally speaking, it is only recently that webmasters have realised the enormous possibilities that lie therein. Do not make the mistake of looking no further than the likes of Facebook and MySpace. It takes just minutes to unearth any number of other sites where you can start building long-term relationships which , ultimately, will yield very significant levels of visitors – remember, visitors = sales = income = profit. Everyone is happy!

Steer Clear of Internet Marketing Experts

Since I do reviews of internet marketing products, and spend so much time warning people away from online scams, I get a lot of questions from customers and readers about a number of the internet marketing “gurus”, as they’re known, and whether or not anything they say is legitimate.

My answer, as always, is yes and no. In other words, some are and some aren’t.

I don’t have the time in this article to get into who is and who isn’t trustworthy, but I can give you some general advice about it that should help you with your online business, and save you a lot of time and money in the process, if we’re lucky.

You see, the last few years have become the era of the big launch. You’ve probably seen it. Every guru bombards you with emails about the newest product they have coming out, and they load it up with hype and big dollar figures and bonuses and scarcity and so on. And then, of course, all of their guru pals email you promotions about the same product. And then a week or two later they’re all emailing you about the next guru’s new product. And the cycle goes on and on.

Which is fine for them, and it’s making them a lot of money, but it’s having an adverse effect on most of the people receiving these promotions. Most people are getting overwhelmed and confused and losing sight of exactly what they need to be doing to get their business off the ground.

If you’re on enough email lists, then you might be stuck in the never ending launch cycle, too: getting promotion after promotion, buying product after product, not getting a chance to look into any of them because the next product is already being sold, and never getting a chance to work on your business. And so the only people making money are the gurus.

Here’s the part that really grinds my gears: they’ll constantly tell you that they’re giving you good free information, but in actuality, everything ends up being a sales pitch. They’ll even try to sell you their latest product at one of their live seminars that you’ve already paid to attend. That’s why I don’t go to many seminars, by the way.

I don’t mean for this to be a rant accusing everyone who sells anything ever as bad. Far from it. I sell products online, too, and I firmly believe in many marketing and promotion techniques, and I certainly wouldn’t begrudge anyone their right to make money in business. And I don’t have a problem with product launches, for the record. But I don’t think it’s too much to ask for a certain amount of honesty and, oh I don’t know, customer service in the process.

It’s difficult because the very best salesmen will tell you anything you want to hear in order to get that sale. They’ll lie whenever necessary, because the lies will often sound much better than the truth. And since that quick sale is often the easiest one to get, a lot of marketers go for it.

So how do you know who to trust? Here’s what I think is the best and easiest way to find out: try contacting them.

That’s right. Send them an email and see if they get back to you. If helping others and good customer service is really as important to them as they say, then they’ll respond and answer any questions you have. You’ll find that most of these guys won’t ever get back to you. They’re not really as interested in helping you as they are in making sales and, of course, money for themselves.

And if they’re customer service is that bad, what’s going to happen if you buy their product and have a question about it, or if you aren’t satisfied and want your money back? Will you get a response then?

That’s the sad fact of internet marketing today, and that’s one of the reasons why it’s gotten such a bad name. That’s why so many people are frustrated and angry and taking it out on anyone who tries to sell anything, even the legitimately helpful marketers.

Because in the short term, the truth just can’t compete with the lies. The lies are made to sound too good, and the truth is probably a little boring. But I’d rather have someone tell me the boring truth any day.

So if you’re interested in a product that someone’s selling, then before you spend any money on it, try contacting them and see how it goes. If they’re just too busy to talk to you, then you probably don’t want to do business with them anyway.

You’ll be much better off dealing directly with someone who wants to talk to you and answer your questions: http://www.profitstreamformula.com

Make Money Blogging – Red Flags to Watch Out For

Blogs are an excellent source of money to supplement your regular income, and can sometimes do well enough to cover or even exceed your day job. However, there are some things you have to be particularly careful about when you plan to make money bbbwwwogginngg:

Intrusive advertisements – Do not blind yourself with your pursuit of money by signing up for too many ads on your blog. Even the most popular of blogs will suffer if the advertisers they sign up with constantly use pop-ups and those annoying page-blocking advertisements on your precious weblog.

It may take a little more time and effort to do so, but make sure to double check what advertisements your ad agency will be posting on your website. Load your own blog, and if you notice that the quality or quantity of ads begins to detrimentally affect the readability of your blog, negotiate with your ad agency on what can be done to minimize the clutter.

Illegal and Offensive links – When you plan to make money bbbwwwogginngg, you will often be tempted to sign up with lucrative advertising agencies. However, make sure to screen the content of these ads on your blog.

Pirated videos and music, bogus health supplements and pornography are definitely some advertisements that you would want to avoid. That is unless, of course, your blog contains content that promotes or contains them. Then you would not have a problem with offending people with your blog; you will just have a problem with the law should the time come.

Copyright Infringement – Copyright infringement is not just about uploading content on your blog. Although that is pretty blatant infringement, a more subtle problem here would be dropping the name of some big company in your blog without their approval.

This is particularly problematic when you make money bbbwwwogginngg. The problem stems from making money by associating these copyrighted names and content with your blog; effectively using the brand name to make your blog more attractive.

Defamation and Political Statements – Many people have been fired or slapped with lawsuits when they carelessly tossed around names in their blogs; especially when these words are critical or derogatory of certain individuals or establishments.

If you plan to make your blog long-term, steer clear from political criticisms and ‘flaming’ certain individuals, products, establishments, or companies. The last thing you need for your money-making blog is to get a lawsuit forcing you into a lengthy, costly, legal battle.

Leaking Trade Secrets – Whatever you do, do not leak confidential and private material in your blog about anyone or anything out there. Even just simply talking about what happened at work could have some stiff legal consequences in the end.

While it may prove to be an innocent and exciting aspect to add spice to the content of your blog, the legal repercussions simply are not worth it. Again, a lengthy and costly legal battle is something that you do definitely want when you want to make money off bbbwwwogginngg.

Blogs are lucrative side-lines to supplement your income or replace it altogether. Just keep these red flags in mind when you want to make money bbbwwwogginngg, and you can wait for the cash to roll in without having to worry about any problems in the long run.

5 Tools Every Web Developer Should Have

Web development is a very satisfying job but can be very tedious with all of the coding and testing you have to do. Different tools can make this job much easier no matter what you are coding, whether it is a basic web site using just HTML or if it is a database driven web application. I have complied my 5 favorite tools to use when I am doing web development, of course you will have your own set of tools. These 5 tools are all free tools with the intention of helping starting web developers get their business going until they can afford the $300+ programs.

WS Ftp is a great FTP program which has certain versions that can be obtained for free and used as long as you would like. You can set up different profiles and access different web servers file systems so you can upload, download, create and delete files on a remote web server.

Apache Web Server is a free web server that can be installed on a Windows or Linux machine and can be used to test web applications and web pages you have created without having to purchase web space.

MySQL Administrator can be installed on any computer and then used to connect to a remote server and access the MySQL database. This program gives you great functionality in creating a new database and tables and is a lot easier to use the MySQL command line and just as powerful.

TextPad is a very powerful text editor that can be used to write just regular text documents or can be used to write code for web pages and any other program. Best of all this program is free to download from their web site. TestPad color codes the text you type assuming that it understands what you are writing. Color coding text really helps developers get there “ correct when you are working a large coding projects.

MSPaint is a program that comes free with Windows but I find in to be a very valuable program when I need to make quick changes to graphics or even some where complicated changes to graphics. MSPaint can be a very handy tool, which you can even use to design your entire web page. As a starting web developer I designed many pages using just TextPad and MSPaint until I was able to purchase more expensive programs.

One more tool I would like to mention will be Adobe Dreamweaver which is a very flexible and easy to use web development tool. This program however is $200+ but I would highly recommend getting it if you are serious about web development and web design.

I tried to keep the tools in the article to free tools for starting web developers to use and not have to purchase $300+ programs to design a web page for someone. The five tools listed above are my personal favorites to use as a web developer. As always keep your eyes open for new tools that provide you more functionality and a low cost or no cost as all.

Making Money From Home Changed My Life!

Finally, I found an easy way to make money right from the comfort of my own home!

Making money online can be a very rewarding experience. Not only in just the income one can generate but the education that can be received. Learning the online marketing experience has provided me with so much useful knowledge that I could have never received anywhere else short of a college classroom.

I know a lot of people who want to gain freedom from the usual 8am-5pm work schedule. I have always asked myself, “Wouldn’t it be wonderful to gain that freedom?”. I always wondered what it would be like to be my own boss. I always pondered these things while searching the internet. I would do this for many nights coming home after working hard all day while barely scraping by.

I have had to tend to my elderly grandmother more the past few years. It has been extremely difficult to do that and work a full time job. Often times I was working overtime many hours. Now I no longer have to worry about not having the spare time. The family time that has been created for me has been simply wonderful! I never knew how rewarding having my own internet based business would be. I only wish I had started years ago instead of working for ‘the man’ all these years!

I am generating a tremendous income from home and have a lot of spare time for myself and my family! Affiliate marketing has earned me a lot of money for a little as one to two hours per day of my time. The beauty of all of this is that I was able to get it started with practically nothing. I had lost my job and started in affiliate marketing. And all I can tell you is that it has been nothing short of awesome!

Affiliate marketing online has proven to me to be a good method to generate a substantial income right from the comfort of home. It has been an extremely easy process that can be very rewarding for me! First, I had to make my own website which was very easy. Second, I had to promote other peoples products by classified ads online and in local newspapers. Also, dealing with the general public in my local town by handing out business cards. Then I was able to start receiving the income and commissions from my efforts. And helping the general public with their needs has also been very rewarding experience for me.

Not only can one do affiliate marketing but one can also create their own product(s) and learn an effective way to promote them as well. Being an affiliate marketer online has been a fun and financially rewarding experience that takes only a couple of hours of my day. That knowledge has caused me to think outside of the box as to what is possible making money online. And that knowledge also is something I can never be more grateful. I am also just so glad to see my hard work finally doing some good.

How to Optimize Images for the Search Engines

Since SEO can be so focused on the written word, people often forget that images can also be optimized for the search engines. Images are an integral part of any website’s SEO campaign not only because they can be optimized but also because they attract traffic and links. People have short attention spans and there’s nothing like a visually stimulating photo or graphic to grab their attention and get them interested in what you have to say.

In addition to breaking up your copy, adding distinctive images, and avoiding large blocks of text on your website, you ought to consider following these tips to optimize the graphics and images on your website. Most of these tips pertain to Google Image Search but Google makes up about 72% of all image searches so it’s certainly a good idea to focus on optimizing your images for Google.

1. Use the alt attribute

The alt text of an image contains a brief description of the image. Be specific, as if you were describing the image to a blind person. Alt text plays a significant role in getting an image ranked in search engines. Don’t just stuff your alt text with keywords. Make sure it’s readable and descriptive to humans as well.

2. Put your images on an authoritative hosting website

Websites like Flickr, Wikipedia, and Picasa are great places to put your images. Anytime you put an image on one of these sites, link back to your main website if possible.

3. Use the target keyword as the image file name

Make the keyword you are targeting the image file name. For example, if you are selling a funny beer t-shirt, make the image file name of the shirt something along the lines of “funny-beer-tshirt.jpg.”

4. Optimize the text surrounding an image

Search engines heavily weigh the text that surrounds an image so make sure the text above and below your images provide context and contain relevant keywords. If you can add tags or captions to your images and graphics, by all means do it.

5. Link images to articles or blog posts on your site

Link images on your website to relevant articles/blog posts on your website. Not only will this help you attract more traffic to content on your site, it will give your internal-linking efforts a boost.

6. Link to images on your website with relevant anchor text

Use anchor text that contains relevant keywords to link to images and graphics on your website.

7. Keep it fresh

If you are targeting highly popular keywords, some experts recommend re-uploading your images time and again since image freshness is a factor search engines use to determine relevancy.

8. Use the preferred image and graphic formatting

The preferred image format is .jpg. For graphics, use .gif.

9. Limit the number of images per page

Your images are more likely to get picked up by the search engines if there are fewer images per page on your website.

10. Create a separate folder for images

When adding images to your website create separate, search engine accessible folders for each image.

In conclusion, these are some ways you can optimize images on your website for the search engines. Currently, most of the focus in the SEO world is on traditional search but traffic via image search is continuing to grow, which will lead to the upcoming discovery and development of new image optimization strategies. And don’t just focus on optimizing images for the search engines either. Make sure you provide high quality images that are detailed, clear, and relevant so you can appeal to human visitors as well.
